Ch. Scyldocga Long John Silver was the first male Bullmastiff I had ever seen.  He was a big red fawn dog and most impressive.  Mrs. Prescott used him heavily in her breed­ing program and began her inbreeding program with him as the foundation.  It is hard to talk about a dog you last saw 20 years ago so my recollections should be taken as remem­brances.  “LJ” was devoted to Karl and Mary and the family.  His companion was Goldie, a border terrier bitch.  He had little tolerance for other dogs, although he always behaved impeccably in the ring.  His attitude toward other dogs was nothing unusual, in those days males used to be “tougher”.  LJ’s head was nice, though by today’s standards some might consider it a little plain.  His eyes were on the light side and his ears large.  He had good bone, but could have used just a little more in the pasterns.  His hocks were a little longer than I like.  LJ had a good topline, a lovely broad and deep chest and good move­ment.  He did quite a bit of winning with his owners handling him and certainly left his mark on the breed as a stud force.
