Bentley was bred at On-it Kennel by my friend Nancy Miracle who passed away a few years ago. Nancy was one of those dog people you could have a conversation with and never exchange a picture because we spoke in dog terminology and the words would create a picture in your mind’s eye of the dog. We bred Bentley’s mom Ember after she passed her health clearances and obtained her championship, to Roxanne and Tom LaPaglia, Blazin’ line, because of Blazin’s bone, substance, and head type. There were many nice dogs in that litter that went to pet homes and were never shown. Bentley was my pick puppy chosen sight unseen based on Nancy’s words describing his movement, short back, and beautiful topline.
Bentley was always owner handled. He easily finished his championship with multiple group wins and had great accolades from other breeder friends all before the age of two. I have always said there are times in our dog career where we need to choose; Are you an exhibitor or a breeder? As a one-person breeder-owner-handler I chose breeding as my top priority to ensure proper rearing of the puppies.
I knew Bentley had more potential in the show ring than I would be able to give him so after many discussions with Roy and Sylvia Lawton of Kinanama Kennels, Bentley made his way to British Columbia Canada! They were looking for a special dog and I knew they were an outstanding home. The type of dream owners’ we breeders all want our dogs to have. Under their guidance Bentley went on to win 7 Canadian Best in Shows, 2 Canadian National BOB with the last being from the Veteran Class and multiple group placements on both sides of the border. We are so grateful to Roy and Sylvia and attribute his long healthy life of 12 ½ years old to their care.
But even above all the wins, the true mark of a ROM is how well they can reproduce Beauty, Intelligence, and Longevity. Bentley was only used once or twice outside our own breeding programs. Within our family, his son Grady has 2 Canadian Best in Shows, 3 Canadian Reserve Best in Show, 5 Canadian Best Veteran in Show, 1 American Regional BOB, 2 American Best Veteran in Specialty and was the first Bullmastiff ever to champion and then Master champion with the Sporting Detection Dog Association for scent detection in Canada. He was also the 1st Bullmastiff to achieve the Platinum versatility award with the Bullmastiff Fanciers of Canada for having over 20 titles in numerous disciplines.
Bentley’s daughter Nova championed very quickly receiving multiple group placements from the classes and Grand championed just as quickly. She started to follow in her brothers’ footsteps with scent detection and became the 1stBullmastiff to Champion in games level and surpassed her brother achievements becoming the 1st Bullmastiff to achieve not 1 but 2 Elite titles! She has her silver versatility in Canada. For fun she starred in the movie Playing with Fire with John Cena where she played his dog “Masher” aka Sparkle Pony
Bentley’s son Kingsley finished both his Canadian and American Championships in a show weekend! He is a Canadian Best in Show and Reserve Best In Show, Best Puppy In show winner and the 2019 Canadian National and Regional BOB. He was the number 1 Bullmastiff in Canada in 2019! Kingsley also got the movie star bug and played his littermate sisters stunt double in Playing with Fire and then went on to play Windchester in the Audi Commercial and watch for his new movie not yet released.
