Ruby came to live with us at two years of age, as she had difficulty getting along with the other dogs in her household. We were able to work around this as well as Ruby’s other little quirks, and she has been a happy member of our brood ever since. Early in one of her pregnancies, the solution used to clean the kennel was accidentally sprayed into her eyes, which caused her to have spastic entropion; Ruby could not open her eyes. When we took her in for an ultrasound to verify her pregnancy, our vet did a ten-minute entropion surgery with a quick acting anesthetic (this was after she completed her championship). Ruby’s eyelids were stitched shut through most of her pregnancy, but the aggressive action of our vet saved her eyesight as well as the lives of her puppies. Ruby has good bone, a strong rear and rather overdone head. She is a bit of a character, and after all she has been through, there is no way we could ever part with her.
