“Cherokee” was from our first HappyLegs to HappyLegs breeding and was our first Best in Sweepstake winner, which she won at old Dominion in 1990. She is a short but extrembly substantial fawn bitch standing 23 inches and weighting 100 pounds. She is an extrembly sound girl with a beautiful rear, exceptional reach and drive and a lovely head. She is a little long in body and short on leg.
“Cherokee’s first litter was a beautiful one, and included our first group and Speciality winner, Ch. HappyLegs Luke of Hartford. She whelped her second litter from frozen semen exactly one year later: she required an emergency C-Section and only one of her three pups was born alive. We almost lost Cherokee after that litter; the day after whelping, I found her out of her whelping box, in the first stages of shock
completely dehisced, with her intestine, mentum and spleen hanging out of her incision which had broken apart. A remarkable emergency veterinarian “put her back together again” with no ill effects. We unwisly bred Cherokee a third time with near diastrous results. With all that she had been through, we felt we owed it to this courageous girl to be our housedog. Cherokee has slept in our bed every since.
