Maggie

What can I say about Maggie, but that she is probably the sweetest dog I have owned in more than 40 years. Maggie finished her championship at about age thirteen months, which is incredible for a brindle bitch, which is why I don’t have a show photo of her at a mature age. Maggie stood like a rock for her examination and almost never needed to be stacked as she self-stacked after her down and back with her legs in perfect position. Her beautiful black mask and ears, nice little triangle ears and perfect bite and strong movement made it easy for judges to point to her, even with the disadvantage of being brindle, which many judges just don’t understand. Maggie is only about 23 inches, but she is a substantial bitch weighing about 110 pounds. Maggie has beautiful small tight feet and strong-boned front legs with heavy, well-angulated hindquarters. She is short backed with lots of rib spring, good pro sternum, both of which we don’t see enough in our Bullmastiffs. With her beautiful little ears, and flat top skull and good check development, square muzzle, her head was strong and feminine. Maggie produced all colors, from the darkest of dark brindle to a more open red-fawn brindle to the lightest fawn to the deepest red. Maggie has the most beautiful true double coat, shiny and thick and has never experienced any coat problems even after whelping, when she would blow only her undercoat and be left with a beautiful top coat. All of the get that have been shown inherited her black pigment and great bite and beautiful fronts and almost never any white in the coats. Most importantly, Maggie was the most incredible mother you could ask for in a brood bitch. I wish I had more of this kind of brood bitch. Maggie produced enough milk for any size litter and I never had to ask her to take care of her puppies. I was able to leave her side and go back to work only days after she whelped confident in her ability to take care of her puppies, which she never left for weeks. Her puppies were always fat, sleeping and immaculately clean. I could come home and find her sleeping in the kitchen, and when checking on the babies, they were all content, full of milk and spotless. She would go on her own back to them when she heard a peep or felt it was time to feed them again, which she did for up to eight weeks. I never asked her to go to her puppies, she always did it on her own. What a pleasure to have her. She also welcomed visitors to see her puppies after a couple of weeks, and many a prospective puppy buyer were swayed by her great confident temperament welcoming visitors as a proud mother to show off her babies. Maggie is not aggressive with other dogs, but she is an up-standing Bullmastiff, gets along with all my other dogs, loves any puppies and her family and friends unconditionally. Maggie is now eight years old, and up until this time she has had no health issues. Maggie indeed is a very special bitch.
