CH Banshee Black Ice Waters brom
All of us who have dogs realize what a good dog is - we all have them. A select few of us know what a great dog is, and Diesel is one of those dogs. He is what all good dogs are....a friend when you most need one, a clown and a goof to make you laugh, a companion who senses when you are not feeling well and will just lay by you to help you feel better.
He enjoys his Rally and Agility classes, never failing to surprise onlookers that such a large dog can be so light and graceful on his feet, and would work so hard for such a little piece of hotdog.
But what really makes him great is his temperament. It’s amazing that an animal so powerful can be so gentle to every living creature he meets. Whenever we have to check to see if a foster dog is friendly to other dogs, Diesel is the one who does the testing. He is the “safe” dog, full of confidence, wanting friendship not conflict. He is the same with all animals. Picture him very slowly walking up to a chickadee so he could smell it without spooking it. Or the time he walked out onto the deck to find a cat standing there and instead of chasing it, he instantly went into a playbow.
But when he needs to be serious, he is very capable. Last winter our girl, Chyna, got attacked by a very large off leash dog. Diesel jumped right in and in a matter of a few seconds all was quiet. So there was this dog just standing there with its head staring straight up to the sky, unable to move, because Diesel had him by the throat. I tried to get Diesel to release him but he would not let go. The dog was not in pain, just totally immobilized. I checked to see if Diesel’s teeth were caught on the dog’s collar, but they were not. I stood there for quite a while trying to figure out what to do when I noticed the other dog slightly relax and then Diesel released his grip and let him go and off he ran. Diesel knew that the threat was over and this dog was no longer a danger. He could have easily chosen to do great harm to the dog, but he did not, it was not necessary.
To me, that is the definition of a great dog. To be friendly to all, but to also know when to be serious, and to have the intelligence and self control to only use as much force as is needed, and no more.

As his breeder I’d love to mention his gorgeous headpiece, beautiful structure, great soundness, and level bite. I’d like a little bit more length of neck, and I’d also like a larger second thigh, but I’d take his rock solid temperament over a longer neck and thicker second thigh any day!
