Brahmin
By Virginia Rowland Of Blackslate Kennels
US and Canadian Champion Blackslate’s Boston Brahmin ROM, BMF608 was eleven years old as of November 1996. He was the Winners Dog and Best in Sweepstakes as a ten month old puppy at the 1986 ABA National Specialty, Best of Opposite at the 1987 Westminster Kennel Club Show (his Aunt Sarah was the Best of Breed winner) and is a multiple Best In Show winner. He was Best of Winners at the 1988 Canadian Bullmastiff National Specialty and Best of Breed and a Group two at the 1988 100th Anniversary Canadian Centennial Show. He was a finalist for the 1988 Kal Kan award. As of September, 1996, he had sired 44 champions, including 4 Best in Show winners (three US BIS winners, and one in Austria), the 1989 & 1992 National Specialty Best of Breed Winner, the first Bullmastiff bitch to win an all breed Best In Show, and many other specialty winners, group winners and placers. At the 1989 and the 1991 ABA National Specialty he received an Award of Merit and was the first in the stud dog class. Brahmin is 26 3/4 inches and 142 pounds. His bite is 1/4 inch under shot. He has a charismatic, clownish personality, loves being shown and loves being around people. At the age of eight, his owner Dolores Melino adopted two babies from Russia. Brahmin had always been a house dog and number one couch potato - and totally unused to children, but he accepted these babies with amazing love and patience that in retrospect should have been expected from a dog with such a tremendous personality.
