Ted
By Patrick & Andrea Kelly
This amazing and wonderful brindle dog was bred by Lee and Cindie Waters, and sent to us by the Spohrs. Ted was our first male, and our first show dog. His early years focused mainly on agility, but somewhere he found time in 2000 to get his CH in the US and Canada, with the Canadian title attained in a mere 2 days in the ring. That same year, Ted made breed history by becoming the first male BMF to attain the AKC title of Open Agility. The following year, he chased points in the hopes of securing a berth at the NADAC agility championships, and easily achieved that goal in 7 weeks of trials, becoming the first BMF to compete at a national agility championship. In 2002, he honed his obedience skills and attained his CD (and became a triple titlist) at Nationals. His therapy dog work helped him qualify for a Working Dog Certificate, he held numerous other agility and obedience titles, and boasted a herding instinct certificate as well.
Ted was a lovely example of the breed, with excellent pigment, good structure, a level topline, and correct angulation. His movement was flowing and powerful, with tremendous reach and drive. Ted had a true, working, Bullmastiff temperament – he protected his family and home with zeal, but he was never unpredictable.
Sadly, Ted left us suddenly in the summer of 2005, less than a year after his outstanding performance at the Fort Worth nationals where he was named Best Veteran in Sweeps, Stud Dog, and also managed to bring home a bronze medallion in Triathlon at the age of 8 1/2. Until the day an aneurysm unexpectedly took him from us, he was as sound and powerful as he had been through his life, and on his 9th birthday enjoyed his regular weekly agility lesson in the morning, and a birthday celebration that evening.
